Identification of Rainfall and Inundation pattern using remotely sensed data in Lake Sentarum Floodplain Area

Wetlands are vulnerable natural habitats that should be preserved to protect habitat for fish and wildlife, flood mitigation, improve water quality, recharge area, maintain surface flow during dry periods. Water bodies swamp areas two primary components of the wetland. Considering its essential roles ecosystem, Lake Sentarum was set as a national park area (Lake National Park – TNDS), Indonesia's 15 priority lakes, and; designated Ramsar site (The Convention on Wetlands) in Indonesia. Despite significant providing limnological characteristic remains challenge due remote location. This study aims identify rainfall inundation characteristics develop rainfall-inundation relationship TNDS area. First, we carried out analysis using Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) data. Second, utilized remote-sensing-based global map from Joint Research Centre (JRC) describe historical pattern. Third, applied Normalized Different Index (NDWI) combined with Modification (MNDWI) selected Landsat dataset extract Finally, developed The result indicated yearly has an increasing trend, highest peak December second April. Historical data shows complex pattern inundation. maximum extent 649 km2, 95 km2 permanent (90>- 100 % occurrence). These were constantly flooded, even season. most non-permanent 161 (80>- 90 larger temporary provides other aquatic biotas habitats. It temporarily stores flowing slowly into River Kapuas through Tawang River. We captured spatial temporal regional rainfall. showed lag -60 days accumulated correlated (R2 0.48, n=11). findings will thus provide valuable lake managers policy-makers biota
